Suzuki Series Rd.1 Race Report from Nathanael Diprose

“Last weekend at Taupo kicked off round one of the Suzuki Series, and I couldn't think of a much better way to start the season off..

This season I'm competing in the F3 / Superlite class on a Suzuki GSX-R 450. It's effectively the same bike I rode last year, just running on 3 cylinders instead of 4.

There was a huge turn out for the Suzuki Series this year and there was so much traffic on the practice day, but I was able to get a good feeling on the bike very quickly and was looking forward for the race day.

Sunday dawned and I carried the good feeling through from practice, qualifying under the lap record with a 1m34.5s lap time.

The first race Jacob got past me off the line and through the first corner, but I got through again when he ran it wide at the tighter turn 7. From then on I focused on smoothing things down and getting into my rhythm. To say I wasn't pushing would be a lie, I had lots of slides throughout the weekend (and this race), but I was feeling very comfortable on the bike, and set a new lap record with a 1m34.1s before crossing the line for the first win of the series.

The second race had a little more drama as I was down in 3rd at the start of the race, and after getting by Jacob, Ashley had pulled a bit of a gap. I was feeling confident in my pace though, and was able to close him down and take back the lead within the next couple of laps, thus wrapping up the weekend with both race wins, pole, and the lap record.

I'd like to thank Pirelli tyres, AGV helmets, RST leathers, EBC brakes, AMCC, MotoTT, RCM Performance, Colemans Suzuki, Race Supplies, and my family. I wouldn't be able to do this without you.”
