Rhys Carter – Australian MX Nationals Round 1 Race Report

Event: Round 1 Australian MX Nationals
Class: Mx1
Location: Maffra, VIC

For the first time in 4years I was back in Australia for the first round of the MX Nationals. I was excited to be there and pumped for the racing to get under way.

Practice/Qualifying: 11th

I rode real tight in Qualifying and struggled to hit my marks and get a good flow on in my hot laps. I could only manage 11th fastest lap time which wasn't what I was wanting but it is only qualifying.

Moto 1: 7th

I got a good jump out of the gate but let my legs go loose as I was going down the start straight and managed to come around the first turn inside the top 10. I settled in on the opening laps but tightened up quickly so had to take a couple of breaths and re group. I started to work forwards and worked my way into 6th but with a couple laps to go I got passed by another rider pushing me back to 7th for the moto.

Moto 2: 7th

I got another awesome jump out of gate and come into the first turn with a shot at the holeshot but got a little throttle happy and slid a little and come round the first turn in 3rd. I moved into 2nd place and settled into the pace of the front guys which I felt comfortable doing. I made one little mistake allowing a rider to go up the inside of me which made me tighten up again. Another rider passed me in a tight section and I went to pass him back but he come across on me putting me on the ground. I got back up and realised the rider had hit me that hard my front brake was broken so I had to race the next 20minutes of the race with no front brake. I ended up finishing in 7th place but took a lot of positives out of the race.

Overall: 7th

It was a good start to the season for me finishing up 7th for day and only 8 points off 3rd place. I went into the weekend wanting to be consistent and have the speed to be up front and I did that so I walked away happy. The first race with the Complete Parts Kawasaki Racing crew was awesome and I really enjoy working with them. I am looking for to round 2 in Appin, NSW in 2 weeks time.

Thank you all for your support

Cheers
Rhys Carter
